Effective 30 March 2011, we are pleased to announce the appointment of En Muzaffar Hisham as Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Islamic Berhad and Head of Islamic Banking Group, Maybank.
Prior to this appointment, En Muzaffar was the Chief Operating Officer of Maybank Islamic Berhad. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Accounting from University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
En Muzaffar has collectively 15 years of experience in the banking and financial services. He started his career in Corporate Banking and Loan Syndication and later involved in the business growth in the Malaysian Bond Market, primarily in the MYR Private Debt Securities ("PDS") Market during his days in Amanah Merchant Bank Berhad and Amanah Short Deposits Berhad. During the 1997 / 1998 financial crisis, he was also involved extensively in debt and corporate restructuring exercises.
He was involved in the investment banking business during his tenure in CIMB Investment Bank and HSBC. His interest in Islamic Banking grew during his exposure in the Malaysian PDS/sukuk market and where later he was heading HSBC Amanah, Malaysia's debt capital market desk.
En Muzaffar’s experience in the Islamic Consumer Banking Business started to pick up over the last 5 years in building up the CIMB Islamic Bank’s retail / business banking franchise post the CIMB Group merger and integration exercise. He was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad which was his last position in CIMB before he joined Maybank.
En Muzaffar was also tasked in managing the Islamic Investment Banking Business and was also responsible in developing the Group’s Islamic Banking Business in ASEAN (Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei).
